Kramer Levin attorneys successfully obtained asylum for Mr. Zhijin Yang and Ms. Mingxia Sun, Chinese citizens who were persistently targeted, persecuted, and tortured on account of their adherence to the practice of Falun Gong. The Kramer Levin team prepared the clients to testify at an interview with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and drafted a brief and supporting affidavits establishing that Mr. Yang’s and Ms. Sun’s Falun Gong practice led them to suffer persecution on three separate grounds: their religion, their political opinion, and their membership in a particular social group. Litigation associate Hanna Seifert worked on the case, with assistance from Intellectual Property associate Geoffrey G. Hu and Shannon H. Hedvat, Corporate Restructuring and Bankruptcy associate Yekaterina Chernyak, and Financial Services associate Jacqueline Edwards.
