Support for Justice and Outside Organizations

Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA). Kramer Levin joined forces with more than 120 firms across the United States to launch the Law Firm Antiracism Alliance. The LFAA was formed in June to leverage resources from the private bar with legal service organizations to amplify the voices of communities and individuals oppressed by racism, and to use the law as a vehicle for change that benefits communities of color.

Leadership Lessons. Dennis K. Heyman, an associate in Kramer Levin’s Real Estate department, completed the New York City Bar’s 2020 Associate Leadership Institute (ALI). Dennis works with developers, investors, operators, purchasers, sellers, borrowers and lenders in the acquisition and disposition, leasing, financing, management, and development of single- and mixed-use commercial and residential properties. He earned his law degree from Harvard Law School.

ALI was established in 2017 to train midlevel and senior associates in business development, executive presence, leadership and management skills. This year’s ALI spanned nine months instead of three, due to the pandemic. Sessions covered topics including client development, feedback, effective leadership, executive presence, managing up, maintaining grit and resilience, and working through COVID-19. Since 2017, 18 ALI Fellows have been promoted to partner and 12 to of counsel.

Tipping the Scales Award. The Diversity & Flexibility Alliance awarded Kramer Levin its Tipping the Scales award at the Alliance’s annual conference, “Moments of Impact: Transforming Organizational Culture,” held virtually on Nov. 5. The annual award recognizes firms that have 50% or more women in their 2020 new partner class, as identified in the Alliance’s 2020 New Partner Report, which analyzes the gender breakdown of attorneys promoted to partnership in U.S. law firm offices.

Kramer Levin was one of 46 firms receiving the award. The Alliance collaborates with organizations to develop flexible work policies that create inclusive work cultures and help promote more women into leadership positions.

Leadership Panelist. Kramer Levin Litigation partner Kerri Ann Law took part in a panel discussion titled “The Executive Suite & The Legal Team: Working Together to Create a More Diverse Culture” on Oct. 28. The panel was part of a virtual event presented by conference platform Centerforce called “The Driving Diversity in Law & Leadership Summit: New York,” which Kramer Levin sponsored.

Kerri Ann is chair of the firm’s Hiring Committee, and a trial lawyer and counselor who represents clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in complex commercial litigation.
