On June 30, 2022, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit announced that it will appoint Kramer Levin Bankruptcy and Restructuring partner Philip Bentley as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan. He will assume the role on Sept. 7.
Over the past three decades, Phil has prosecuted or defended high-profile litigation in some of the nation’s largest and most significant restructuring cases, including those involving Puerto Rico, Residential Capital, Bernard Madoff, General Motors, W. R. Grace, Adelphia Communications, WorldCom and Dow Corning. Phil joined Kramer Levin in 1986 and has served in the Bankruptcy and Restructuring group since 1992, litigating dozens of complex bankruptcy and insolvency disputes on behalf of a diverse group of clients, including official creditors’ and equity committees, unofficial creditor groups, and trustees.
