On February 5, 2009, Kramer Levin was selected as counsel to the official committee of unsecured creditors of Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation and certain of its affiliates (collectively, “Smurfit Stone"). Smurfit-Stone previously filed voluntary petitions for relief in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware and its bankruptcy cases have been assigned to the Honorable Brendon L. Shannon. Smurfit-Stone is a leading manufacturer of paperboard and paper-based packaging products in North America and produces a range of corrugated containers to protect, ship, store and display products made to its customers’ merchandising and distribution specifications. For the quarterly period ended September 30, 2008, Smurfit Stone reported approximately $7.450 billion in total assets and $5.582 billion in total liabilities on a consolidated basis.
