Kramer Levin has defeated an unprecedented eight petitions on behalf of firm client Finjan Inc. On January 14, 2016, Kramer Levin defeated six petitions by Symantec, which had requested inter partes reviews on five patents held by Finjan. Symantec had petitioned the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in response to a patent infringement suit that Finjan filed against the company in Federal District Court in the Northern District of California in 2014. The patents at issue are Finjan’s 7,756,996; 7,757,289; 7,930,299; 8,015,182; and 8,141,154 patents, which relate to systems and methods to protect computers and networks from malicious software.
Earlier, in September 2015, Kramer Levin successfully rebuffed two inter partes petitions by Sophos that challenged Finjan’s 8,677,494 and 7,613,926 patents. Three additional inter partes petitions will be reviewed in March.
