The firm hosted a discussion with Dr. Brigitte Vittrup on talking to children about diversity. Dr. Vittrup discussed how and why children develop biased attitudes and what parents and other adults can do to intercept this process.
Dr. Brigitte Vittrup is an Associate Professor of Child Development at Texas Woman’s University. She holds a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on parent socialization practices and media influences on children. One of her specific research areas involves racial socialization of children and external influences on children’s racial attitudes. Dr. Vittrup’s research has been featured in academic journals, such as Journal of Applied Developmental Psychology, Journal of Family Issues, and Analyses of Social Issues and Public Policy, as well as major news outlets, including the Washington Post, Newsweek, and NPR.
