• Roya Linda Butler handles complex patent disputes involving computer software, network infrastructure, cybersecurity, wireless networks, semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence. Roya brings her background in computer programming and cybersecurity and a meticulous approach to all aspects of intellectual property litigation, from pre-suit analysis to trial preparation. She has contributed to winning litigation teams representing prominent technology firms, including a recent case for a Japanese semiconductor leader.

    Roya also works on transactional matters, including entity formation and contracting, as well as on intellectual property transactions involving copyrights, trademarks, and design and utility patents. Her work involves branding, marketing strategies, licensing deals and agreements, intellectual property assignments, and nondisclosure agreements for clients in fashion, entertainment and technology, among other industries. She collaborates with lawyers from the Employment Law and Tax practices on strategic alliance agreements. Her contracting work includes co-branded events, collaborations and privacy compliance initiatives.

    Roya’s previous experience includes regulatory and government work. While in law school, she worked at the Department of Defense Military Commission, the Securities and Exchange Commission Cyber Unit, and the Federal Trade Commission in the Bureau of Consumer Protection’s Division of Privacy and Identity Protection. Roya holds CompTIA Security+ SYO-501/601 certification and has completed coursework for IAPP CIPP/E/US, maintaining an active Secret Clearance.

    Roya serves as a senior cybersecurity and privacy law instructor at CryptoHarlem, a nonprofit cybersecurity education and advocacy organization. As part of her commitment to pro bono work, she also assists the organization in privacy-related matters. 

    Prior to joining Kramer Levin, Roya served as an associate at two global law firms, working on intellectual property litigation, technology transactions, data privacy, cybersecurity, gaming, digital asset review and due diligence, M&A due diligence and other technology-related matters.
