• Juliana Oliveira Maggio is a litigator who maintains a diverse practice with a focus on commercial, securities and bankruptcy-related matters. Juliana represents clients in civil litigation in state and federal courts, in commercial arbitrations, in internal investigations, and in connection with investigations and enforcement proceedings before government and regulatory agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

    Prior to joining Kramer Levin, Juliana was an associate in a leading law firm in Brazil.

    Experience

    • Represents EIG Global Energy Partners in a $221 million fraud action against Petrobras, the Brazilian state-owned oil company.

    • Represents accounting networks, accounting firms and individual accountants in PCAOB and SEC investigations and proceedings and in internal investigations.

    • Represents companies, officers, and directors in class actions alleging securities fraud.

    • Represented an accounting association in a class action lawsuit arising from the bankruptcy of Parmalat in Italy.

    • Defended Sirius Satellite Radio against breach of contract and tortious interference claims in commercial arbitration proceedings seeking damages of $130 million, in which the final award dismissed all claims with prejudice and was confirmed by the New York Supreme Court.

    • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of Magna Entertainment Corp. in litigation concerning recharacterization of debt and equitable subordination claims.

    • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in litigation concerning the valuation of Smurfit-Stone Container Corp.

    • Represented the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors in litigation concerning approval of a settlement agreement between the Capmark Financial Group Inc. and its secured lenders.

    • Represented a large group of Madoff investors in litigation concerning preference and fraudulent conveyance claims.

    • Represented certain creditors with claims against the estate in the Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. bankruptcy.

    • Represented a refugee applying for asylum in a pro bono matter.
