• André Pineda, Ph.D., concentrates on intellectual property matters involving biotechnological inventions.

While pursuing his doctorate in biomedical sciences at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences, André conducted research into age-dependent pathogenic changes in the Parkinson’s disease-causing protein alpha-synuclein. He also co-founded, designed and implemented a new graduate school course, Current Topics in Neurodegeneration, and led the peer mentorship program and journal club for neuroscience students.

Committed to bridging the gap between scientists and the public, André has participated in a number of programs designed to spread scientific knowledge. These include teaching science lessons to elementary school students and conceiving and hosting a series of entertaining educational events for the general public, including “Biology Bar Games,” a series of interactive original science games, and “Publish or Perish: Scientists Review Movies,” a comedy show featuring scientists and comedians discussing the science of popular movies.

His earlier research includes studying a protein involved in neurodevelopment and adult neurogenesis at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and investigating a molecular pathway for neuron repair at Boston Children’s Hospital.
